The Lir’s close associations with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London and Trinity College Dublin ensure that the contents of all courses are set to the highest international standards, so whether you are setting out to undertake a postgraduate Master Degree in Playwriting or a beginners Introduction to Acting course, you will be trained by industry professionals in a trusting, dynamic and fun environment.
Bachelor Degree in Stage Management & Technical Theatre
(Level 8)
The Bachelor in Stage Management and Technical Theatre Degree
This three-year honours degree, offered for the first time in 2017 will replace the existing two-year Professional Diploma in Stage Management and Technical Theatre which has been offered by The Lir Academy since 2012.
This new degree course will continue to offer practice based training to students who are interested in a career in professional theatre, TV and film.
It has been enhanced to provide increased opportunities in specialist areas within stage management and technical theatre (e.g. sound, lighting and construction), increased professional placements and a major research project relevant to a student’s choice of specialism. Classes on production management, design (set, lighting, costume and sound) and managing your own freelance business will also be introduced during the final year.
Professional Diploma in Stage Management & Technical Theatre
(Level 8)
It is a practical, skills based course covering stage management, set design and construction, wardrobe, lighting design and operating, prop making and sourcing, sound design and operating and scenic art. It also covers history theatre and design so that each student has the skills and know how to research various times in history relating to productions.
All teaching is provided by dedicated, experienced and qualified theatre technicians and stage managers who also continue to work in national and international theatres and are up to date with the latest technology and processes.
This is a two year full time course with a professional diploma qualification from Trinity College Dublin.
The Lir Academy has strong associations with RADA and this course is based on the technical theatre and stage management course available there.
